What if you could add NIJ Level III rifle protection to the bag you already carry your MCK in — and barely feel the extra weight? That is exactly what the new LWBP16 ballistic plate does when paired with our Rapid Deployment Ballistic Sling Bag.

Our customers have been asking for it, and we listened. The CAA Rapid Deployment Ballistic Sling Bag (BSB) already lets you carry and quickly deploy your Micro Conversion Kit. Now, with the optional LWBP16 ballistic plate, that same bag becomes a Level III rifle-rated protection system. You get MCK deployment and ballistic protection in one compact, everyday-carry package.

WHAT IS THE LWBP16 BALLISTIC PLATE?

The LWBP16 is a Level III ICW (In Conjunction With) speed plate made from Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, also called UHMWPE. This is the same advanced material used in some of the most high-end military and law enforcement armor systems in the world. The big difference? This plate weighs just 1.6 pounds in a standard 10? x 12? configuration — making it one of the lightest Level III plates you can buy anywhere.

The plate is only 0.5 inches thick, so it slips right into the dedicated rear pocket of the CAA Ballistic Sling Bag without adding any noticeable bulk. It is NIJ certified, meaning it has been independently tested and verified to meet the National Institute of Justice standard for Level III rifle protection. And it comes with a 15-year warranty — three times longer than most ceramic plates on the market.

WHAT DOES “ICW” MEAN — AND WHY IT MATTERS

You might see the letters “ICW” and wonder what they stand for. ICW means “In Conjunction With.” It simply means this plate is designed to reach its full Level III rating when it is used together with a soft armor backer. Think of it like a team: the plate handles the hard-hitting rifle rounds, and the soft backer behind it absorbs the leftover energy (called backface deformation) so it does not transfer through to your body.

Here is the good news: the CAA Rapid Deployment Ballistic Sling Bag already has built-in padding that acts as the soft armor backing. When you slide the LWBP16 plate into the bag’s rear pocket, the plate and the bag’s padding work together as a complete Level III system. You do not need to buy a separate soft armor vest or carrier. The bag does the job.

This is what makes the combo so practical. Most ICW plates require you to wear a full Level IIIA vest underneath a plate carrier. That setup is heavy, hot, and not realistic for everyday carry. With the LWBP16 and the BSB sling bag, you get the same level of rifle protection in a setup that weighs under 3 pounds total (plate + bag) and looks like a normal sling bag.

WHY IS IT SO LIGHT?

The secret is the material: UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene). Unlike ceramic plates, which use heavy clay-like materials that can crack if dropped, UHMWPE plates are made from layers of advanced polyethylene fibers that are pressed and bonded together under extreme pressure. The result is a plate that is incredibly strong but also incredibly light.

To put this in perspective, a typical Level III ceramic plate weighs between 5 and 8 pounds. A steel plate can weigh even more. The LWBP16 weighs 1.6 pounds. That is less than a loaded Glock 19 magazine. You could carry this plate in your bag all day and barely notice it is there.

UHMWPE plates also have another big advantage: they do not crack. Ceramic plates can lose their protective ability if they get dropped on a hard surface or banged around in the trunk of a car. UHMWPE holds up to everyday bumps and movement without losing any of its ballistic rating. That is one reason why the LWBP16 comes with a 15-year warranty while most ceramic plates are only covered for 5 years.

WHO IS THIS COMBO FOR?

The LWBP16 + BSB sling bag combo is a great fit for several types of shooters and prepared citizens.

MCK Owners Who Want Added Protection

If you already own a Micro Conversion Kit and carry it in the CAA Ballistic Sling Bag, adding the LWBP16 is the simplest upgrade you can make. Your bag instantly goes from a carry solution to a carry-and-protect solution. You deploy your MCK from the same bag that is shielding your back.

Everyday Carry and Personal Safety

At just 1.6 pounds, the LWBP16 is light enough to leave in your bag at all times. Whether you are heading to the range, driving to work, or just want peace of mind in your daily routine, you are adding rifle-level protection without changing your habits. The sling bag looks like any other bag you would see on the street — nothing about it draws attention.

Home Defense Preparedness

Having a quick-deploy bag near your bedside or by the door means you can grab your MCK and ballistic protection in one motion. No fumbling with separate plate carriers. No strapping into a heavy vest. Just grab the bag and go.

HOW THE PLATE AND BAG WORK TOGETHER

The CAA Rapid Deployment Ballistic Sling Bag was designed from the start with a dedicated rear zipper pocket sized for a standard 10? x 12? ballistic plate. The bag measures 17? x 13? x 3? on the outside, with a 16? x 11? interior — plenty of room for your MCK, spare magazines, accessories, and the plate in the back pocket.

The bag weighs just 1.0 pound on its own. Add the 1.6-pound LWBP16 plate, and your total weight is only 2.6 pounds before you load your MCK and other gear. For comparison, a typical plate carrier with a ceramic plate weighs 8 to 12 pounds just for the armor — before you even add any gear to it.

The bag also includes an HK-style snap at the top for quick MCK deployment, MOLLE webbing inside for organizing accessories, and a Velcro panel on the inner flap for an ID patch. With a push-button sling swivel included, it sits securely on your body and is ready to go at a moment’s notice.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does ICW mean for a ballistic plate?

ICW stands for “In Conjunction With.” It means the plate reaches its full NIJ Level III rating when used together with a soft armor backer. The CAA Rapid Deployment Ballistic Sling Bag has built-in padding that serves as the soft armor backer, so the plate and bag work together as a complete Level III system.

What rifle threats does the LWBP16 stop?

When paired with the CAA Ballistic Sling Bag, the LWBP16 is rated to stop 7.62x51mm NATO, 7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm, and all lesser rifle and handgun threats. This covers the most common rifle calibers in North America.

Does the plate fit the CAA Ballistic Sling Bag?

Yes. The bag has a dedicated rear zipper pocket designed to hold a standard 10? x 12? plate. The LWBP16 slides right in for a secure, snug fit.

How long does the LWBP16 last?

The LWBP16 comes with a 15-year warranty. Because it is made of UHMWPE rather than ceramic, it does not crack or degrade from normal handling and everyday bumps. Most ceramic plates only last about 5 years before they need to be replaced.

Is the LWBP16 sold separately?

The LWBP16 is available as an optional add-on when you purchase the CAA Rapid Deployment Ballistic Sling Bag. It is designed specifically to work with the bag’s built-in padding to achieve its Level III rating.

Is body armor legal to own?

In most U.S. states, civilians can legally buy and own body armor. A few states have restrictions, such as Connecticut, which requires in-person purchases. Some states restrict convicted felons from owning body armor. Always check your local and state laws before purchasing.
